VIDEO: How to install Android on iPhone
Here’s a video of me going through the entire process of installing Android onto my iPhone using only my Mac using my instructions from here. The only difference is the way I’ve killed iTunes and the iTunesHelper (using Terminal).
Before starting my iPhone was jailbroken using sn0wbreeze (on Windows 7) with firmware 3.1.3 I have also tried with 3.1.2 using PwnageTool and that also worked perfectly for me.
Here’s the video (you’ll probably need to view in fullscreen):

Thank you androidalot for the instructions.
I was able to install it using Windows 7 using virtual Box. I followed all your instructions to the letter and I am now running Android! Thank you!
The only problem I encountered during the installation was that Ubuntu (under VirtualBox) had a hard time recognizing the USB devices (recover and openiboot modes). What I did was to power down Ubuntu then choose settings ->USB then manually add the devices to the list.

I’m having issues opening the .vdi file in virtual box. It’s saying
“Failed to open the hard disk /usersmasterfuiji/Desktop/ubuntu-910.vdi.
Could not get the storage format of the medium ‘Users/masterfuiji/Desktop/ubuntu-9.10.vdi’ (VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED).”
Please help.

yeaah, same with me. Ubuntu had a hard to recognizing USB(openiboot modes)
how you add manually?
I usually prefer a freshly booted / restarted PC before I do the following.
1. You have to open virtualbox but not run any other guest OS (Ubuntu).
2. Attach your iPhone in Recovery Mode (make sure ituneshelper is not running).
3. Then click Ubuntu and go to Settings (you won’t be able to go to Settings if Ubuntu is running)
4. Settings -> USB
5. You can then add list of USB devices to Ubuntu (it will be preloaded when you run Ubuntu).
You will have to do the same for iPhone in OpeniBoot mode.

when i enter the command ./loadibec openiboot.img3
into terminal i just get a message saying
open_device: unable to connect to device. your device must be in recovery mode.
and my iphone is defiantly in recovery mode cause it has the usb picture that say connect to itunes

Fixed not recognizing iPhon in recovery mode.
When Ubuntu isn’t running, click settings at the top (Next to the “New” buttom.
Go down to USB, look at Filters. On the right side of the empty box, there will be little icons.
I had my iphone connected in recovery mode already. If you click the second icon, a window will appear. Select the iPhone device and make sure the box next to the name is checked in the once emtpy big box.
Now, start Ubuntu and see if it worked1
took me forever to get mine to work right

Thanks to you superhero, i was able to install Android on iPhone 2G. Just wanted to make a couple of points.
1. You could avoid the whole selecting the iPhone device from USB devices section in VM machine if you have Ubuntu running as a different instance and i was definitely able to atleast get the openiboot on the phone successfully by deploying Ubuntu (dual boot).
2. For folks who after deploying openiboot and getting stuck Reading nvram…Done, please make sure that the files are copied over using Filezilla instead of WinScp and also modify the permissions of the uploaded files to 777.
Issues so far: Screen does not sleep, browser crashes, a bit slow (but usable), phone overheats (guess because of the display being continuously ON).
Questions: Does anyone know how to get the market place app? Also when could we expect a release from your team for Android 2.0 or 2.1 release?
Folks who had the same issues as above and were able to resolve, please comment

For some reason Virtual Box and Ubuntu will recognize my iphone running normally, but when I put it into recovery mode, neither will recognize it. Very stuck here
about 3 years ago
Thats because it is a 7zip compressed file hence the .7z you have to uncompress it first with the 7zip extractor (like old lharc) ya just can’t go renaming things – You sure you’re ready to tackle this????

Woah! I’m really loving the template/theme of this website. It’s simple, yet effective.
A lot of times it’s challenging to get that “perfect balance” between superb usability and appearance. I must say that you’ve done a awesome job with this.
Additionally, the blog loads super fast for me on Opera.
Outstanding Blog!
